Sarah M – Essex

I became suddenly very ill in 1996 aged 14 with flu-like symptoms that persisted for weeks. Doctors essentially disbelieved me for years, until I was eventually given a diagnosis of ME in 2000. That year I started developing severe and multiple allergies, which by 2005 could only be helped by low-dose immunotherapy provided by the private sector. When my ‘ME’ symptoms got much worse, it was found that I was suffering with Lyme disease, but no thanks to the NHS. They wouldn’t even test my blood that they had in the lab for EBV, let alone consider Lyme testing. I don’t remember a specific bite that set all this off, and never saw a tick. Things are slowly improving for me now, but the NHS needs to do more.
